Social Media Director Krystin in Toronto blogs about maintaining city-style in the suburbs.
While originally planning on being a city girl post-graduation, Krystin followed her husband out to the ‘burbs and decided to call it home. We sent her a pair of our Vanetta winter boots to see how they'd fit in with her stylish ensembles.
What trend (that everyone loves) do you hate?
Dad sneakers! I cannot get behind this trend regardless of the designer or how it’s styled. They haven’t been and never will be cute or fashionable. I can’t shake the idea of a kid wearing tissue boxes on their feet when I see this on the street!
Trying to source a pair of boots for a Canadian winter that not only keep your toes toasty but your #OOTD on point is no joke! Thankfully, these Vanetta boots do double duty for your winter closet...”

What inspired you to start a blog?
I began blogging in 2012 and simply saw it as a means to share my creativity through an outlet. I could have never imagined it would come so far!
[After moving to the suburbs] my city style never left me, which often seems to perplex neighbours who question why taking out the trash, grocery shopping or post office runs require an ensemble.
Needless to say, Suburban Faux-Pas has become a personal outlet to relate to city slickers and suburban stylistas alike.
What’s the biggest fashion mistake you’ve ever made?
Trying to combine too many trends at once. I’ve tried to scale back the amount of statements I make in my outfits and let fun accessories or shoes do the leg work!

What’s your earliest memory of caring about how you dressed?
High school. I made it a point to let everyone know I was in a punk band (ugh!) so my uniform became shredded band tees, studded belts, rolled distressed jeans, bright socks and sneakers with hodge-podged newspapers over the cap toe. I care A LOT more now!
What do you like about your Cougar boots?
Not only do I love the color, but the faux-fur detail has been getting me compliments all week...
And they are warm! Saturday’s temperatures hit a record minus fifteen degrees with the wind chill and even with a regular pair of socks, my toes were toasty throughout the day as we ran errands around town.
I love that [these boots] creates a streamlined look with my favourite pair of jeans, eliminating any bulky looks.”
